Facebook allowing anonymity in log-in

Anonymity offers many people some freedom online while they express their views on corruption etc issues. But not letting know real name of the author also allows for misuse of anonymity.

Facebook was not interested in anonymity on the internet previously but it has now announced that it will let users log in to apps anonymously.

This announcement actually tries to explore those users who do not log in to Facebook for fear of someone stealing or revealing their personal information.

However, allowing anonymity for log in will still permits the social media site to know about user activity.

Is Facebook really embracing anonymity?
Allowing anonymity in log in does not mean that Facebook has finally embraced anonymity. There is still long way to accomplish this goal if at all the social site wishes so.

Facebook still demands real name and information from the users.

Anonymous log in a step forward
Given privacy missteps by Facebook, the new log in seems to be a step forward. The new log in will ask the users to select the information Facebook can reveal.

So, the onus will be on users to manage the information that Facebook wants to share on their behalf.

Anonymity in log-in linked to competition
Facebook had to allow anonymity in log in since current social media competition has only increased to get loyalty and attention of users.

Many users have flocked to Snapchat and it was worrying Facebook. Anonymity in log in seen as a way to tackle this competition.

It is to be noted here that Facebook tried to buy Snapchat but it turned down the offer.

Now, Facebook has no other option than to bring anonymity in its services for the users.
